Cryptocurrency exchanges in India are thinking about challenging the RBI’s order which bans entities under its regulation from providing services related to cryptocurrencies. Startups including Unocoin, Coinsecure and Zebpay have expressed their reservations with the order and are considering to mount a legal challenge in the Supreme Court. Coinsecure said that they were talking about the issue with industry stakeholders like Blockchain and Cryptocurrency Committee of India and the Internet and Mobile Association of India. Jincy Samuel, Chief Operating Officer of Coinsecure said, "We, along with the other industry players are in talks with IAMAI and BACC to see if they could help us in getting a hearing at the Supreme Court to see if stay orders are possible on the current decision of the RBI." However, Samuel accepted that the central bank’s order will affect their services and investors will be left with alternatives to move to an alt-to-alt trading or...

What if Robots are enabled by Artificial Intelligence

Researchers are exploring possible impacts of developing robots that are driven by Artificial Intelligence. Developing robots that have a mind of their own can automate a number of real-world situations. A team of researchers from the University of Texas, Austin is incorporating AI into machines. These systems can learn themselves and operate in the home, workplace and even the sports field. If these robots can deal with real-world situations, we can soon have intelligent robots that you must have seen in science fiction movies. The fictional representations of intelligence robots are in the minds of global users for over 50 years now. The manufacturing sector has been the biggest beneficiary of robotic technologies. The robots that can carry out preordained and repetitive tasks can solve a number of problems. But these robots are not capable of dealing with real-world situations. Even the simplest tasks that can be unpredictable need human interaction to solve. Resea...

TCS earns $2 billion per year through analytics biz: CEO Rajesh Gopinathan

Tata Consultancy Services gets nearly $2 billion in revenue a year from  analytics , the company’s CEO  Rajesh Gopinathan  told ET in an interview, making it the largest chunk of its digital revenue. India’s largest IT company gets over 22% of its overall revenue from digital — a number that will be well over $3 billion for the financial year ending March 2018. This is the first time  TCS  has defined the contribution of the business segment that makes up the overall digital revenue figure. Last year, TCS appointed Dinanath Kholkar, who used to run its $2-billion business process outsourcing business, to head its analytics division. “Analytics in itself will be equal to the portfolio he (Kholkar) was running earlier. Analytics was distributed across a very wide set and once we are done bringing it together, we will have to think how we report it and all, but we run probably one of the largest analytics groups,” Gopinathan said. The IT firm’s $2.5-bil...

Why enterprises adopt DevOps to drive business growth

Everybody is talking about DevOps and agile practices. Enterprises that implement DevOps and agile practices together have observed significant business success. A survey released by CA Technologies and Freeform Dynamics covers 1300 executives from various organizations. 75% of the organizations have fully embraced DevOps and agile practices. These organizations report 60% higher rate of revenue and profit growth. Only a small proportion of the organizations believe that the need for consistency, breadth, and depth needs to be high. Enterprises that adopt DevOps and agile in a comprehensive manner are usually non-traditional in nature. These organizations are forward-thinking, open to innovation and participative. The organizations that really need a good dose of DevOps and agile are not adopting these practices in the manner that they should. The uninspired companies are assuming that they don’t first go out of the business. In order to avoid being disrupted, they ma...

We should use AI to solve social problems, said PM Modi

It is no news that IT workers are looking at AI and automation as a big threat. India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi thinks that Artificial Intelligence (AI) can solve a number of problems in the country In his monthly ‘Mann ki Baat’ radio broadcast, he emphasized on how AI can solve a number of issues in the country. He deliberately focused on how ‘Artificial Intelligence’ can help the country in solving problems like differently abled persons, tracking natural disasters, assisting farmers and extending health services. PMO Modi is keen on learning more about the real-world use cases of AI and automation. If artificial intelligence is harnessed and implemented in a right way, it can add a huge benefit to the society. With the large population and digital literacy, India has a great pool of data that we can use for creating highly-advanced AI technologies. He said, “It was interesting to know about the ongoing miraculous accomplishments in the field of science. Artifi...

7 Technology Trends That Will Dominate 2018

Staying on top is one of the key factors for business and technological innovation. And with over 600 unique programming languages, deciding on the best programming language for your project may be difficult, and can be the hardest part in the initial development phase. And to help, here’s our list of the top 10 potential programming languages to learn in 2018, to help decide the best programming language to use for your project is to evaluate your project needs. 1. Swift: More popular than Objective-C, this is the language for developing native iOS or Mac OS apps, and is the programming language with the most potential for reshaping the future. Native apps have been found to outperform cross-platform hybrid apps, and SpriteKit makes it even easier to build 2D games. Indeed, it builds itself on the successes of C and Objective-C without the constraints of compatibility. It was heavily influenced by Ruby and Python, and is considered user friendly and fun to use. Blockchain engineers are in demand

Demand is off the charts for blockchain talent, and the capital is waiting to back it up. More than $3.7 billion has been raised through ICOs in the United States alone. Blockchain-related jobs are the second-fastest growing in today’s labor market; there are now 14 job openings for every one blockchain developer. And as Nick Szabo, the developer who coined “smart contracts,” pointed out, there is an extreme “ $/knowledge ” ratio in the blockchain space, where capital by far outpaces talent. Today,  Toptal , a marketplace for on-demand tech talent, is publicly launching their  blockchain engineering talent vertical  out of private beta. In today’s software development landscape, Toptal represents about 50 percent of on-demand engineering labor by revenue. Requests for on-demand blockchain talent are skyrocketing. Last year, freelance talent marketplace  Upwork  saw blockchain rise to the fastest-growing skill out of more than 5,000 skills in terms of free...

Why WhatsApp's entry into payment arena could change Indian banking forever?

After months of anticipation,  WhatsApp  rolled out its payments feature to select users across the country to much enthusiasm this week, providing a strong boost to India’s  digital payments  ecosystem. But that didn’t almost happen because of the company’s foreign origin. Turns out, this was WhatsApp’s second endeavour to enter India’s payments market. Last year, the messaging app, the largest in India, tried to partner with a private bank in the country to develop a digital wallet app to facilitate payments on its platform. That was when it ran into a reluctant Reserve Bank of India. The regulator was not ready to allow a foreign entity to enter India’s digital payments space, according to multiple stakeholders ET spoke with to piece together the story behind WhatsApp payments. “Non-bank entities applying for authorisation shall be a company incorporated in India and registered under the Companies Act 1956 / Companies Act 2013,” read  RBI ’s master gui...
