AMP addresses will soon show full site URL and drop 'google.com/amp' prefix

Accelerated Mobile Pages  are fast and extremely convenient primarily due to the wide adoption by publishers. However, one common complaint involving URL schemes has existed since its origin, and Google is  finally tackling it . Most AMP page URLs begin with google.com/amp due to privacy concerns and in order to deliver the vaunted speeds: As we detailed in a deep-dive  blog post  last year,  privacy reasons make it basically impossible to load the page from the publisher’s server. Publishers shouldn’t know what people are interested in until they actively go to their pages. Instead, pages are loaded from the Google AMP Cache that append the google.com/amp/ URL prefix to the address. This prefix has been criticized for a number or reasons, including in relation to Google’s  fake news  problem. Viewers have a tendency to trust less than reputable sites that use AMP as the presence of Google in the URL provides a level of trust that is not nec...

In an interview with ETCIO.COM,  Ankur Kothari , Co-founder and CRO, Automation Anywhere discusses how the company is making automation accessible to all. Canadian professor Marshall McLuhan, who predicted the internet and the impact it would have, had famously said: As technology advances, it reverses the characteristics of every situation again and again. The age of automation is going to be the age of 'do it yourself.' How is Automation Anywhere aiding automation democratization to make automation accessible to everyone? Let me explain the problem that we are trying to solve. Every enterprise today has hundreds of systems but less 10-15% of the systems can actually talk to each other. Rest of the systems don’t have API’s and don’t talk...

Chrome on desktop now mutes annoying autoplays by learning from your behavior

There’s little that’s more annoying on the web than videos that start playing automatically and with their volume up. Over the course of the last few years, Chrome and other browser vendors have started to  combat this , but for the most part, those solutions relied on the user explicitly taking action. Now, following the  launch of a similar feature on mobile , Chrome on desktop is also getting much smarter about which sites it’ll allow to autoplay and which it’ll block — and it’ll learn from your behavior to personalize this feature. Google  says a “significant number of autoplays” are paused and muted, or have their tabs closed, within six seconds. I’m actually guessing most people close those tabs faster, but six seconds seems like a good enough measure to know whether a user wanted to hear the sound from a video or not. Going forward, Google will  learn  from your own browsing behavior and learn which sites you’ll want to mute. For users who aren’t ...

Cashbacks & incentives: Govt to take cues from rivals to popularise BHIM

We have noted the model of PhonePe, Google Tez and Paytm, whenever there are incentives or cashbacks, the transaction volumes pick up. This is another behavioural change,u201d said a top government official who is aware of the development. The person did not wish to be named. The share of BHIM in total UPI transactions has dropped to 5.75% in February from 40.5% in August last year, according to the latest data from the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), which tracks digital transactions in the country. The official said the move to offer cashbacks and incentives is also to encourage more transactions on the BHIM platform and reduce usage of cash. For this, the incentives for merchants for using BHIM-Aadhaar platform will be significantly increased to 0.5% of the transaction value upto Rs 10,000 against the earlier 0.25% of the transaction value of just Rs 2,000. The government admits that the offtake of the earlier scheme for merchants has been low (just a few lak...
